Paso a Paso
Hello everyone! What a month it’s been! We’ve had teams after teams, trainings after trainings. I hiked another volcano. I even got sick again (no surprise to anyone who’s known me for long enough). It’s been super busy but so very productive.
One of the teams that visited us was from a church in North Carolina called Hope Community Church. It was made up of a team of college students all of which were a joy to have. We had the opportunity to train them in the material that we use in the Harvest then take them out into our groups with us. The other team that came to visit and is still with us is a group of women from an other NC church called Element church. They’ve come because our Church here in Guate just hosted a women’s conference for the local missionary women in our area. Based off of the pictures it looked amazing. I unfortunately couldn't attend because I was stuck in bed with a 102 degree fever. Fortunately, I’m feeling much better now.
In between the chaos of the teams, we had the opportunity to hike the volcano Acatenango. Let me tell you. Although this was my second time hiking this volcano, the second time was so much worse. Right at the start of the six hour hike, it began to storm. Like lightning striking trees near us and hail type of storm. Thankfully, that part passed, but it was still wet and cold the whole way up to the camp sight where we “slept” for and two hours, until waking up at 4:00am to finish the hike. All in all, I’d still do it again, but next time I’m for sure going to pack for rain.
As for the coffee shop, so much progress has been made! All of the necessary plumbing and electric has been installed as well as the menu chalkboard! The search for the right espresso machine still continues. It’s been a lengthy process of looking at machines and sorting through the ones that are functioning and the ones that are not. The machine that we originally had our eyes on sadly didn’t work as well as we’d hoped, but a new machine is coming in in about 20 days that we’re hoping is one! In my heart, I wish things were moving faster, however, we’re moving step by step or in Spanish, paso a paso. This, of course, is all we can ask for.
As always, I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to my supporters! None of this would possible without y’all. Also a huge thank you to those who sent in donations towards the espresso machine! We’re still about $1,500 dollars short of the estimated goal of what it will cost so if you would like to contribute to that amount, they way to do that is by clicking the Support Me Here button on my website and filling in the necessary information. Please make sure to specify what the donation is for in the notes section, so I can know if it’s meant for the machine or not. If you would like to become a monthly supporter, then you can go through the same process just make sure that you click the option that says Make This a Recurring Donation.
Also please be praying for me in this season. As I've mentioned before, this is all very new to me so right now I’m just seeking for wisdom in how to open this cafe in the best way that I can. Please also be praying for the process of getting this espresso machine. It’s a very important and expensive decision so I want to be sure that im getting the right one. Lastly, Please be praying for my health, as I’ve now been sick twice in the two months that I’ve been here.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this newsletter. If you have any questions or if you want to get in contact with me, feel free to email me at makennajking@gmail.com. I’ve also added new pictures to my photo gallery to those that wish to look at them! Love you all, and talk to y’all next month!!
